Dominique Baettig (born September 22, 1953 in Delsberg , resident in Rickenbach ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP ).

Life

Baettig is a psychiatrist by profession . He is married and has four kids.

politics

In the elections on October 21, 2007 , Baettig was elected to the National Council as the first representative of the SVP of the Canton of Jura . Since the SVP Bern was always averse to the separation of the Jura from the canton of Bern, the canton of Jura had previously had a negative attitude towards their policy. Baettig's choice was a sign that this attitude was slowly weakening. In addition, Baettig was able to benefit greatly from a list connection between the SVP and the then Free Democratic Party . In the elections of October 23, 2011 he was not re-elected.

Compared to the party average, he is open to ecological issues.

In a move, Baettig demanded that Switzerland create conditions to facilitate the connection to Switzerland in regions near the border, such as Baden-Württemberg , the Jura department and Alsace in France, Bozen , Aosta and Como in Italy and Vorarlberg in Austria.

Parliamentary work

In Parliament, Baettig was part of the Social Security and Health Commission , so he spoke mainly on health issues. He sees the reason for the higher health care costs being a “fully comprehensive mentality” and increasing bureaucratisation, accompanied by a weakening of general practitioners. He rejects managed care models.

Baettig describes himself as an opponent of globalization and sees migration as a threat to national and regional peculiarities and wants to terminate the free movement of people between Switzerland and the EU. He sees himself as an advocate of common sense versus political correctness . Baettig criticizes an alleged increase in hedonism and indifference and a decrease in conservative values such as personal responsibility or the appreciation of work. In his opinion, legalizing cannabis would reinforce such a development. Again and again, Baettig spoke in the National Council against proposals for the introduction of paternity leave , behind such projects of a “feminization of the male role model” and he suspects that many men would only want paternity leave because their wives press them to do so.

Right-wing extremism and allegations of racism

In the run-up to the coordination of the continuation of the free movement of persons and its extension to Romania and Bulgaria , Baettig used antigypsy clichés . In December 2009, Baettig asked the Federal Council in a parliamentary initiative about the “consequential costs of invasion of alien species”, whereby Baettig compared foreigners with insects and plants. Statements by Baettig on the popular initiative “Against the construction of minarets” in October 2009 at the congress of the right-wing extremist movement Les Identitaires in southern France were classified as verbal racism by the Foundation against Racism and Anti-Semitism . During his student days, Baettig was active in right-wing extremist groups , from which he has now partially distanced himself. However, some of his views can still be classified as revisionist , which suggests an ideological proximity to right-wing extremism.
