Gabi Huber (born February 29, 1956 in Schattdorf ) is a Swiss lawyer and politician ( FDP ) from the canton of Uri . She was the first government councilor, the first woman Landammann and the first national councilor of the canton of Uri. From 2008 to 2015 she was President of the FDP-Liberal Group in the Federal Assembly .

biography

Gabi Huber studied law at the University of Freiburg and was admitted to the bar and notary's office in 1981. In 1982 she opened her own office in Altdorf , and from 1984 to 1995 she was a youth lawyer for the canton of Uri. In the meantime she received her doctorate in civil law in 1990, and in 2006 she acquired the SAV mediator patent.

Huber joined the FDP Altdorf in 1984 . From 1988 to 1996 she was District Administrator of the Canton of Uri, where she chaired the Audit Commission and the Finance Commission. In 1996 she was elected to the cantonal government , to which she belonged as Finance Director until 2004 and of which she was President ( Landammann ) from 2002 to 2004. Between 2001 and 2004 she also chaired the Central Switzerland Conference of Finance Directors.

Gabi Huber became the first member of the Uri National Council in the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2003 , since then she has been Vice-President of the Legal Commission and a member of the Judicial Commission and the New Financial Equalization Special Commission of the National Council. From 2006 to 2008 she was Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party of Switzerland with responsibility for German-speaking Switzerland , and from 2008 to 2015 she was President of the FDP-Liberal Group in the Federal Assembly. In the 2015 parliamentary elections, Huber did not stand for re-election. Then she withdrew from politics.

Huber was a member of the board of directors of Elektrizitätswerk Altdorf AG and Vereinigte Schweizerische Rheinsalinen AG until 2004, and from 2004 to 2012 she was Vice President of the Swiss Association for Mountain Regions (SAB). On June 14, 2015, she was elected to the Board of Directors of UBS Switzerland AG .
