Peter Föhn (born December 11, 1952 in Muotathal ; legal domicile there ) is a Swiss entrepreneur and former politician ( SVP ). He represented the canton of Schwyz in the Council of States between 2011 and 2019 .

Life

Föhn is a trained teacher. From 1975 to 1988 he was a primary school teacher, from 1991 to 2001 he worked as a school administrator in the Schwyz district. Today he is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Betschart AG furniture factory in Muotathal, which, among other things, produces furniture based on Feng Shui principles. Föhn is married and has four children.

Peter Föhn was a member of the National Council for 16 years from 1995 to 2011 . On November 27, 2011, he was elected to the Council of States in the second ballot. Thus, from December 2011 until Föhn resigned at the end of the 50th legislative period of the Swiss Federal Assembly in 2019 , the canton Schwyz was the only full canton in Switzerland to be represented in the small chamber by two politicians belonging to the same party (SVP).

National Councilor Föhn was a member of the Commission for Science, Education and Culture (1995–1999), the Commission for Public Buildings (1999–2003) and the Commission for Transport and Telecommunications (1999–2011). In the Council of States he sat in the State Political Commission (SPK), in the Business Audit Commission (GPK) and in the Commission for Economics and Taxes (WAK). Föhn is a vaccination critic and anti-abortionist. In parliamentarian ratings, Föhn regularly came out as the most right-wing politician in the consensus-oriented Council of States.

In 2013 Föhn came under suspicion of accepting benefits when he invited himself and his wife to an overnight stay at the luxury hotel Chedi in Andermatt.
