In addition to the Glarner Kantonalbank, Swisscanto and Bank Vontobel are among his most important professional positions. From November 2010 to October 2013, Landolt worked at UBS as a political advisor.

politics

Landolt was elected to the Glarus District Administrator in 1998 , which he presided over in 2006/2007. From 2001 to 2005 he was parliamentary group leader of the Glarus SVP and from 2003 to 2008 he was vice-president of the SVP Glarus. On May 19, 2008 he announced his resignation as Vice-President of SVP Glarus and his resignation from SVP. As a justification, he cited that the liberal ideas he represented no longer fit into the party. In addition, he struggled with the style of the party and missed the fairness of internal disputes. The party resigned against the background of the exclusion process of SVP Switzerland against the SVP cantonal party Graubünden , which was opened after Federal Councilor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf had not excluded from the party. On August 28, 2008, together with around 100 other interested parties, he founded the Civil Democratic Party of the Canton of Glarus, which he then presided over. On February 8, 2009 he was elected to the National Council as the successor to the resigned Werner Marti . With his election, the Bourgeois Democratic Party achieved parliamentary strengths , which means that since the spring session of 2009 it has formed its own parliamentary group ( parliamentary group of the Bourgeois Democratic Party ). Landolt was sworn in as a National Councilor on March 2, 2009.

On May 5, 2012, Landolt was elected by acclamation to succeed Hans Grunder as President of the BDP. The BDP is considered to be the party of the center due to its great agreement with the Swiss referendums; According to Landolt, nobody is closer to the people just because he claims that the others are not. Landolt lamented an increasing understanding of lies in referendum campaigns as alleged "laws" and wanted to position the party in the center as a party of reason against such practices for 2017: "If left-wing populism is the answer to right-wing populism, then in the end no one other than populism wins . “In 2020 he wants to step down as BDP president.

He is a member of the 2013 founded at the initiative of beverage manufacturers lobby group for sweet drinks IG soft drinks .

Landolt lives with his three daughters in a blended family in Näfels.
