Peter Knechtli

Peter Knechtli (born November 11, 1949 in Schöftland ) is a Swiss journalist .

Life

Peter Knechtli, a trained typesetter, began his journalistic career in 1972 as a local editor for the Thurgauer Volksblatt and in 1973 for the Thurgauer Volksfreund . In 1974 he was editor of the National-Zeitung in Basel, where he worked in the Baselland department. In 1977, under Roger Schawinski, he was head of the Basel / Northwestern Switzerland regional editorial team for the newspaper Die Tat . From 1978 he worked as a Basel correspondent and freelance journalist for numerous Swiss, Baden and Alsatian daily and weekly newspapers as well as news magazines such as SonntagsZeitung, Weltwoche, NZZ am Sonntag, Beobachter, Luzerner Neuste Nachrichten, Berner Zeitung, St. Galler Tagblatt and for Swiss radio DRS active.

On behalf of Andreas Blum, the then director of Radio DRS, he designed the culture magazine (formerly Radio-Magazin ).

Knechtli is considered a pioneer of online journalism. In 1997 he founded the Basel information platform OnlineReports , one of the first independent Swiss news portals, at that time under the brand name “Peter Knechtli Reports”. OnlineReports went into commercial operation in October 1998 . He works in Basel.

Honors

In 2007 and 2008 he was named “Swiss Journalist of the Year” in the local journalism category.
