Lukas Engelberger

Lukas Engelberger (born May 2, 1975 in Basel ) is a Swiss lawyer and politician ( CVP ).

Life

Engelberger attended the Humanist High School in Basel, studied law at the Universities of Basel and Freiburg in Üechtland from 1994 and graduated in 1999 with a licentiate . In 2001 he was admitted to the bar of the canton of Basel-Stadt and in 2003 his Master of Laws from University College London . In 2003 he did his doctorate with Thomas Cottier at the University of Bern . Engelberger worked as legal advisor at Hoffmann-La Roche between 2005 and 2014 until his election to the government council .

Lukas Engelberger is married and has three children. He is the nephew of ex-National Councilor Eduard Engelberger .

politics

Engelberger was already politically active in the school parliament and later in the youth parliament . He joined the CVP at the age of 18. Engelberger has been a member of the party leadership of the CVP Basel-Stadt since April 2001, and has been Vice President since 2002. Engelberger has been a member of the New European Movement Switzerland (NEBS) since 1996 , until June 2006 he was President of the Basel section of the NEBS.

In February 2004, Engelberger replaced Marie-Thérèse Jeker-Indermühle in the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt and was confirmed in October 2004 and September 2008. Since 2007 he has chaired the Economic and Tax Commission (WAK).

In 2014 he was elected to succeed Carlo Conti in the government council of the canton of Basel-Stadt and has been head of the health department since then. He has been President of the Conference of Health Directors since 2020.
