organization

Sections of the SP Basel-Stadt

The SP Basel-Stadt is organized through what are known as neighborhood associations. These are called St. Alban-Breite-Innenstadt, Basel West (formerly Bachletten-Neubad and St. Johann), Clara-Wettstein-Hirzbrunnen, Gundeldingen-Bruderholz, Horburg-Kleinhüningen, Spalen and SP Riehen. They are independent associations and are responsible for neighborhood and community politics, leading election campaigns, nominating candidates for cantonal elections and sending delegates to the cantonal party's delegate assemblies.

Anyone who is a member of one of these district associations is a member of the SP Basel-Stadt.

Groupings

There are many groups and interest groups in the SP Basel-Stadt. The two most important of them are the SP Women Basel-Stadt and the Young Socialists Basel-Stadt.

The Young Socialists Basel-Stadt (JUSO Basel-Stadt for short) is the young party of the SP Basel-Stadt. She enjoys financial support, advice and the right to sit on the committees of the SP Basel-Stadt (party executive committee, assembly of delegates). With around 200 members and a regular media presence, it is the most active political youth organization in Basel.

The Young Socialists of Basel-Stadt participated unsuccessfully in the 2007 National Council elections and the 2008 Grand Council elections. In the 2011 National Council elections, they achieved the highest percentage of votes of all young parties with 1.6%.
