Eugen Wullschleger
Eugen Wullschleger (born January 8, 1862 in Basel , † August 30, 1931 in Riehen ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).
Life
After attending grammar school in Basel, Eugen Wullschleger completed a commercial apprenticeship because he could not afford to study. He joined the Grütliverein as a clerk in Bern . In 1886 he was a co-founder of the Basel Workers' Union. In the same year he was elected as the only representative of the workers' organizations in the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt , of which he was a member until 1902 and again from 1920 to 1931. In 1888 he was involved in the founding of the Swiss Social Democratic Party, which he presided over from 1891 to 1893. In the parliamentary elections in 1896 , he was the first Basel social democrat to be elected to the National Council, to which he was a member until 1902 and again from 1912 to 1917. From 1902 to 1920 he was the first city councilor of his party in Basel. In 1925 he was also the first social democrat to win the seat of the Council of States of his canton, which he lost again in 1928.
