Arthur Schmid junior

Arthur Schmid (born January 25, 1928 in Oberentfelden , entitled to live in Oberentfelden and Staffelbach ) is a former Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Arthur Schmid is the son of the SP National Council and Aargau Grand Councilor Arthur Schmid senior . After studying law at the University of Zurich and graduating as Dr. iur. he started as a secretary at the Kulm District Court . He later became Secretary General of the Aargau Health Directorate.

From 1959 to 1979 he sat for the Aargauer SP in the National Council, where he devoted himself particularly to the issues of education and social security.

From 1965 to 1993 Schmid was director of the education department, a member of the cantonal government , and several times also Landammann . During his time as director of education, the opening of the teacher training school (today the university of education) in Aarau , the school law, the establishment of the technical college ( engineering school ) in Brugg - Windisch , today the university of technology on the Brugg-Windisch campus of the FHNW , and the establishment the Aargau-Solothurn Higher School of Economics and Administration (HWV) in Olten , which is jointly supported by two cantons and which has now also been incorporated into the FHNW. A projected Aargau University was given up in 1976.

From 1969 to 1974 Schmid presided over the Swiss Social Democratic Party. In 1973 he was the SP's official candidate for the Federal Council , but was defeated by Willi Ritschard , who appeared as a supposed outsider .
