The 52nd Melodi Grand Prix was the Norwegian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen ( Denmark ). Carl Espen emerged as the winner . As in the previous year, the moderators of the Norwegian preliminary round were Jenny Skavlan and Erik Solbakken . The winner of the preliminary round, Carl Espen, represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song Silent Storm in Copenhagen. As in every year, the broadcasting station was NRK1 .

format

concept

Unlike in previous years, the preliminary rounds of the Melodi Grand Prix were not held in different Norwegian cities, but all on three consecutive days at the Folketeateret in Oslo . In addition, the number of participants has decreased. While seven participants per semifinals were presented in 2013, there were only five per broadcast in 2014, of which three artists each qualified for the finals in the Oslo Spektrum . In the run-up to the semifinals, 15-second preview clips with the songs of the participants were posted on nrk.no/mgp . Another innovation was that from now on it was only possible to vote by SMS and no more points were given by local juries in the Gullfinal (gold final), in which the four audience favorites met.

Attendees

All participating artists were presented at a press conference on January 27, 2014. At the same time, short preview clips were posted on nrk.no/mgp and Instagram to get an impression of the artists and songs. Finally, on February 19, 2014, all songs were officially released on the Spotify and Wimp streaming platforms . Foreign interested parties, however, had difficulty hearing all the contributions, as some songs only have rights for the Norwegian music market. In addition, videos were posted on nrk.no/mgp for advertising purposes , in which the artists were presented in more detail.
