The state election in Salzburg in 1959 was carried out on May 10, 1959 and was the fourth state election in the state of Salzburg in the 2nd republic. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) slipped while on the profits for the state election in 1954 back on the outcome of the state election in 1949 returned as they lost 2.7 percent and, with a vote share of 43.3 percent 14 of 32 mandates. This meant a loss of one mandate compared to 1954. The result of the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ), however, remained almost unchanged. The SPÖ again achieved 13 seats with 38.6 percent. This was a slight increase of 0.4%. The winner of the election, however, was the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), which won three percent and one mandate over its predecessor party , the electoral party of the independents . The FPÖ won five mandates with 16.1 percent. As in 1954, the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) failed with 1.8 percent and the Salzburg home list (SHL) with 0.2 percent to enter the state parliament.
The state parliament of the 4th legislative period was constituted and elected the state government Klaus III as the new Salzburg state government.
