Freedom Collection of Austria

The Austrian Freedom Collection (FSÖ) was a political party in Austria . It was founded in 1953 and renamed itself in 1956 to the "Democratic National Workers Party" (DNAP). In 1959 the DNAP dissolved.

The Freedom Collection of Austria was founded in 1953 by the member of the National Council, Fritz Stüber , who had been excluded from the Association of Independents (VdU), and the former VdU functionary Fritz Ursin . Ursin then took on the role of FSÖ federal chairman, Stüber the role of his deputy. However, Fritz Stüber was probably in charge of the FSÖ. In addition, the former regional manager of the VdU Carinthia, Heinrich Burgstaller, the former VdU councilor Josef Doppler from Vienna, the later FSÖ federal propaganda officer Karl R. Peter and the right-wing extremist Konrad Windisch were also involved in the FSÖ .

Ideologically, the FSÖ was extremely national and made a commitment to German ethnicity. It also fought against the National Bank Act passed in 1955 and advocated the “ restoration of the actual function of money as a mere medium of exchange in the economic cycle ”. While the majority of the VdU Vienna overflowed to the FSÖ and this led to the decline of the VdU regional association, the FSÖ could hardly establish itself in the other federal states. In addition to the candidacy in the state and municipal council elections in Vienna in 1954 , in which the FSÖ reached 1.24%, the party only managed to run for the state elections in Salzburg in 1954 , which, however, clearly failed with 0.4% . At the beginning of 1956 the FSÖ renamed itself to the “Democratic National Workers Party” (DNAP), with the founding party congress of the DNAP on April 7, 1956. The DNAP subsequently discussed a collaboration with the newly founded FPÖ . This did not take place, however, as the coming developments should be awaited. However, the announced participation in the National Council election in 1956 did not take place.

In the course of the founding of the FPÖ, numerous functionaries left the DNAP. Fritz Ursin also vacated his post as federal chairman. As a result, Stüber took over the function of DNAP chairman, his deputy was the former NSDAP functionary Franz Hanke . The DNAP stood as a candidate in the municipal council elections in Salzburg in 1957 , but failed when it entered the municipal council. In 1959 the DNAP dissolved.
