State and municipal council elections in Vienna in 1954
The state and municipal council elections in Vienna in 1954 were held on October 17, 1954. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ), which was only able to hold the absolute majority in the 1949 state elections and lost the absolute majority, was able to regain an absolute majority in 1954 with a plus of 2.8% and a share of the vote of 52.7% recapture. The SPÖ also won seven seats and now has 59 of the 100 members in the newly elected state parliament. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), on the other hand, lost 1.8% and only achieved 33.2%, but was able to maintain its previous 35 mandates. The Communist Party of Austria , which this time ran together with the Left Socialists and the Democratic Union as the “Electoral Community of the Austrian People's Opposition” (VO), was able to increase its share of the vote by 0.4% and achieved 8.3%. Nevertheless, the regulation lost one mandate and subsequently appointed six members. The electoral party of the Independent (WdU), on the other hand, failed to return to the state parliament with a minus of 2.2% and a share of the vote of 4.6% and lost its previous six mandates. The Austrian Freedom Collection (FSÖ) with 1.24% and the Radical Socialist Workers' Movement of Austria (RSA) with 0.02% also failed to enter the state parliament .
The Viennese state parliament and municipal council for the 7th electoral term were constituted on December 10, 1954 and on that day elected the state government and the city senate Jonas II to be the new Viennese state government.
