The state and municipal council elections in Vienna in 1959 were held on October 25, 1959. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) was able to make profits for the second time in a row, increasing by 1.8% and one mandate. With a share of the vote of 54.4%, the SPÖ subsequently provided 60 of the 100 members of the state parliament. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), on the other hand, lost its share of the vote for the second time in a row and had to give up two seats after losing 0.8%. It achieved a total of 32.4% and reached 33 mandates. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), which ran for the first time, achieved 8.0% and entered the state parliament with four seats. Compared to its predecessor organization, the electoral party of the independents (WdU), the FPÖ was able to improve by 3.4%. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ), on the other hand, lost 3.0% and lost half of its previous six seats.

The Vienna Landtag and City Council of the 8th electoral term was constituted on December 11, 1959 and on that day elected the provincial government Jonas III as the new Viennese provincial government.
