State and municipal council elections in Vienna 1983
The regional and local council elections in Vienna in 1983 were held on April 24, 1983. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) lost again in the election after the state elections in 1978 and lost 1.7% as well as one mandate. With a share of 55.5% of the votes, she reached 61 of the total of 100 mandates and was thus able to keep its absolute majority of votes and mandates clear. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), on the other hand, was able to grow for the third time in a row and achieved its best state election result since 1949. With an increase of 1.1%, the ÖVP achieved 34.8% and 37 seats, which meant that the ÖVP was able to win two seats. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) again lost the second state election in a row and lost 1.1% of its share of the vote and one mandate. With a share of the vote of 5.4%, the FPÖ only achieved two seats in the Vienna regional and local council. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) failed with 1.1% for the fourth time in a row to enter the state parliament, which the first-time candidate Alternative List Vienna (ALW) missed with 2.5%. The electoral community for citizens' initiatives and environmental protection (WBU) remained almost unchanged compared to the 1978 election at 0.6% and, as before, remained without a mandate.
The Vienna state parliament and municipal council for the 13th electoral term was constituted on May 27, 1983 and, after swearing in, elected the state government Gratz IV , which was replaced by the state government Zilk I on September 10, 1984 .
