State parliament and municipal council election in Vienna 2005
The 2005 state and municipal council elections in Vienna were held on October 23, 2005 and held together with the 2005 district council elections. It was the first election in Vienna that 16- and 17-year-olds could also participate (the active voting age for the Viennese municipal council elections had been lowered from 18 to 16). In the election, the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) was able to increase its majority of votes and again achieve an absolute majority in the mandate. The SPÖ achieved an increase of 2.2% and reached 55 of the 100 mandates with 49.1%, with an increase of three mandates. The loser in the election, however, was the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), which lost 5.3% and, with a share of 14.6% of the vote, had to accept its worst result since 1987. The FPÖ lost eight of its previous 21 mandates and only had 13 members in the Vienna state parliament and municipal council. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), on the other hand, achieved an increase of 2.4%, which also won two seats with 18.8%, achieved a total of 18 seats and overtook the FPÖ again. The Green Party Vienna (Greens) have experienced electoral gains and increased by 2.2% to a vote share of 14.6%. This meant that the Greens were able to increase three seats to 14 seats. All other lists, however, failed when they entered the state parliament.
The Vienna state parliament and municipal council for the 18th electoral term was constituted on November 18, 2005 and on that day elected the provincial government of Häupl IV .
