Edgar Refardt
Edgar Refardt (born August 8, 1877 in Basel , † March 3, 1968 there , entitled to live in Basel) was a Swiss musicologist .
Life
Edgar Refardt was born on August 8, 1877 in Basel as the son of the businessman Carl Arnold Refardt and the Edith née Bischoff. Refardt began studying law at the Universities of Geneva , Leipzig and Basel , which he completed in Basel in 1901 with the academic degree of Dr. iur. completed.
After initially working as a lawyer, Edgar Refardt turned completely to musicology in 1915 and was instrumental in establishing this subject academically in Switzerland. To this end, he acted as administrator of the Basler Orchestergesellschaft between 1921 and 1948 and built up the music department of the Basel University Library . In 1928 Edgar Refardt published the “Historical-Biographical Music Dictionary of Switzerland” . Refardt wrote numerous writings and bibliographies , especially on Swiss and Basel music history .
Edgar Refardt married Margaretha in 1902, the daughter of Peter Friedrich Koechlin from Basel. He died on March 3, 1968 at the age of 90 in Basel.

- In 1937 the University of Basel awarded him an honorary doctorate in philosophy
