Ombamba (also Bakota, Lembaamba, Mbama, Mbaama, Mbamba and Obamba) is a Bantu language and is spoken by around 24,800 people in the Republic of Congo and Gabon .

It is widespread in the Republic of the Congo in the Lékoumou region in the Bambama district with around 15,100 speakers (2000 census) and in Gabon in the Haut-Ogooué province south of Okondja with around 9700 speakers (2004 census).

In Gabon, around 25% of bilingual speakers can read and write Ombamba.

classification

Ombamba is a Northwest Bantu language and belongs to the Mbere group , which is classified as a Guthrie Zone B60. 81% of the vocabulary has similarities with the vocabulary of Teke-Tege , 77% with that of Mbere and 66% with that of Teke-Tsaayi .
