The state election in Salzburg 1969 was carried out on March 23, 1969 and was the sixth state election in the state of Salzburg in the Second Republic. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) lost 4.2 percentage points and two mandates and, with a share of 40.7 percent of the vote, only achieved 13 mandates. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) remained in second place with a slight minus of 0.5 percentage points behind the ÖVP, almost stable and was able to hold its 13 mandates, which was the first time it caught up with the ÖVP. The big election winner was the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), which increased its share of the vote by 6.2 percentage points and gained two seats. With a share of the vote of 18.0 percent, the FPÖ subsequently provided six members of the state parliament in the newly elected state parliament. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ), on the other hand, failed with 0.7 percent, as did the list “Adolf Glanschig - For Humanity, Law and Freedom in Austria” (MRF), which gave 0.2 percent confidence.
The state parliament of the 6th legislative period was constituted on May 14, 1969 and elected the state government Lechner III as the new Salzburg state government.
