State election in Salzburg 1984
The state elections in Salzburg in 1984 were held on March 25, 1984 and were the ninth state elections in the state of Salzburg in the Second Republic. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) was able to gain around 4.8 percent and two seats, which is the first time since 1945 that it regained an absolute majority of votes and seats. With 50.2 percent, the ÖVP then made 19 of 36 members of the state parliament. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) again suffered losses of four percent after winning the state elections in 1979 and also lost one seat. With 35.1 percent, the SPÖ only had 13 mandataries. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) continued its downward trend and suffered losses for the third time in a row. With a minus of 4.5 percent, it lost one mandate and had four seats in the newly elected state parliament with 8.7 percent. The Green Alternative Citizens' List (GABL) and Die Grünen Österreichs (DGÖ), both of which did not stand for election in the Tamsweg-Lungau constituency, failed with 4.3 and 1.3 percent respectively, as did the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) in their entry into the state parliament . The KPÖ had also left out the Tamsweg-Lungau constituency and the Salzburg-Umgebung constituency and only achieved 0.5 percent.
The Landtag of the 9th legislative period was constituted on May 16, 1984 and on the same day elected the Provincial Government Haslauer III as the new Provincial Government of Salzburg.
