Sigmundur Ernir Rúnarsson

Sigmundur Ernir Rúnarsson (born March 6, 1961 in Akureyri ) is an Icelandic journalist, writer and politician ( Alliance ). As a writer, he is particularly prominent through his poetry and as a writer of biographies .

Life

After graduating from Akureyri High School , Sigmundur Ernir Rúnarsson attended journalism courses in Norway , Sweden and the United States from 1981 to 1986 . He worked for various Icelandic media, including the TV station Sjónvarpið of the public broadcaster RÚV , as a reporter and deputy news editor for the private broadcaster Stöð 2 and as an editor for the newspapers DV and Fréttablaðið .

From 2009 to 2013 he was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the Northeastern constituency . Most recently, he was a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Justice and Education and the Budget Committee; since 2012 he has also been a member of the Icelandic delegation to the parliamentary committees of the EFTA and EEA states as well as the joint parliamentary committee EU- Iceland.

Sigmundur Ernir Rúnarsson has been program director of the private television station Hringbraut since it was founded in 2015 . Even after the media company 365 miðlar das Fréttablaðið sold to investors around Helgi Magnússon in 2019 and its activities were merged with Hringbraut under one roof, Sigmundur Ernir remained in this role.

Literary work

Sigmundur Ernir Rúnarsson has been writing poetry since he was in high school . His first volume of poetry, Kringumstæður , was published in 1980. In an interview in 1990 after the publication of his third collection of poems, Stundir úr lífi stafrófsins , he said that the poems in it were very personal. They should “scream, cry and laugh” and allow him to express himself in a way that is not possible when watching television in “a neutral mask and a neat tie”. Since then, several more volumes with poems by Sigmundur Ernir have been published. In addition, he has also written numerous non-fiction books, especially biographies , including about the former minister and chairman of the progressive party Guðni Ágústsson . His description of the life of Magnea Guðmundsdóttir as a mother who stood up for her children against adverse circumstances was number 1 on the bestseller list for biographies and memoirs of Morgunblaðið in the 2nd week of December 2008 .
