The 1999 state election in Salzburg was held on March 7, 1999 and was the twelfth state election in the state of Salzburg in the Second Republic. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) was able to maintain its 1994 result and increase it for the first time since 1984. She gained 0.2 percent and reached 15 of 36 mandates with a share of the vote of 38.8 percent, which meant winning one mandate. The Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), on the other hand, was able to gain 5.3 percent after several losses in state elections and achieved twelve seats with 32.3 percent. With this, the SPÖ won a mandate for the first time since 1979. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) stagnated after winning the previous elections and achieved a small plus of 0.1 percent. With 19.6 percent, however, she lost one mandate and subsequently sent 7 members of the state parliament to the state parliament. The Greens - The Green Alternative (GRÜNE) lost 1.9 percent and one mandate, with which they only achieved 5.4 percent and two mandates. The Liberal Forum missed a place in the state legislature, the where as early as 1994 with 3.5 percent Christian Social Union of Austria (CSUÖ) failed with 0.3 percent.

The state parliament of the 12th legislative period was constituted and elected the state government of Schausberger II as the new Salzburg state government.
