State government of Schausberger II
The state government of Schausberger II formed the Salzburg state government under Governor Franz Schausberger between 1999 and 2004. The members of the state government were elected and sworn in by the Salzburg state parliament on April 27, 1999 and held office until the successor government of Burgstaller I was sworn in on April 28, 2004.
With the State Law Gazette No. 25/1999, a far-reaching amendment to the State Constitutional Law of 1945 was implemented. The core of the constitutional amendment was the abolition of government proportional representation, which previously involved all parties in government with a certain percentage of votes in a state election. The constitutional amendment has now replaced proportional government with the majority principle based on free agreement between the parties in the state parliament.
In the 1999 state elections in Salzburg , the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) had reached 38.8% and was thus almost unchanged. The Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), on the other hand, grew by 5.3% and achieved its best election result since 1984 with 32.3%. After the election, the ÖVP and SPÖ formed a coalition government, the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) , which was previously involved in proportional representation. left the government through the constitutional amendment. According to the agreement between the ÖVP and the SPÖ, four of the seven seats in government belonged to the ÖVP and three to the SPÖ. So far, the ÖVP had three government members, the SPÖ and FPÖ two each.
Government members
During the government's tenure there were several changes in the government team. Initially, Arno Gasteiger (ÖVP) resigned from his post as second deputy governor on February 9, 2000 and was replaced by Wolfgang Eisl on that day . The First Deputy Governor Gerhard Buchleitner (SPÖ) also resigned from his office on April 25, 2001, so on that day the previous District Councilor Gabi Burgstaller succeeded as First Deputy Governor. Walter Blachfellner (SPÖ) was elected to the government on April 25, 2001 as the new regional councilor .
