State government Katschthaler I
The state government Katschthaler I forms the Salzburg state government in the 10th legislative period under Governor Hans Katschthaler from the election of the state government on May 3, 1989 to the election of the successor government Katschthaler II on May 2, 1994.
With the state elections in 1989 , the balance of power in the state government, which was occupied according to the proportional representation system, shifted again slightly after 1984. While the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) was able to hold its 1984 absolute majority with four out of seven government seats, the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ), from 1991 Social Democratic Party of Austria, lost one of its previous three government seats to the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), the so that the re-entry into the state government succeeded.
Due to the shift in power within the state government and the withdrawal of the previous governor Wilfried Haslauer from politics, there were several personnel changes compared to the previous government Haslauer III . The previous deputy governor, Hans Katschthaler, was elected as the new governor . The previous Provincial Councilor Arno Gasteiger then succeeded as Deputy Governor . In addition, the ÖVP provided two state councilors, with Gerheid Widrich being a new member of the government. In the SPÖ, which in addition to the first deputy governor could only provide one state councilor, the previous state councilor Sepp Oberkirchner was no longer a member of the government. For the FPÖ, which was not represented in the government from 1984 to 1989, Volker Winkler entered the government.
During the term of office of the Katschthaler I government, there was a change in personnel as early as September 1989, when Deputy Governor Wolfgang Radlegger (SPÖ) resigned from his post on September 12. Gerhard Buchleitner was sworn in for him on September 13, 1989 . Provincial Councilor Bertl Göttl (ÖVP) also left the government on December 11, 1991 and was replaced by Rupert Wolfgruber on the same day . The last change came on October 21, 1992 when Regional Councilor Volker Winkler (FPÖ) was replaced by Karl Schnell .
