Ralf Glau (born November 30, 1956 in Kassel ) is a German game designer and game developer .

He gained greater fame in the late 1980s on the German-speaking market, especially for his two business simulations, Hanse and Vermeer . Initially published for the Commodore 64 by Ariolasoft , both followed shortly afterwards for other computer systems popular at the time such as Amiga , Atari ST , Schneider CPC and DOS .

In the following time he supported other young development teams in the Ariolasoft environment, including Honey Design in the development of their first game Das Magazin .

Together with the graphic artist Holger Paulsen and the computer scientist Harald Uenzelmann, he founded the development studio Art Edition in 1989 . The plan was to develop multiplayer strategy games that appeal more to the “mum and dad” generation or “social simulations” in which behavior towards fellow players is assessed. At the same time, however, the Bertelsmann group decided to withdraw from the software and computer games sector. Ariolasoft was taken over by its long-time managing director Hans-Joachim Krusche, who seamlessly continued the business as United Software . In the collaboration with Art Edition , however, all previous successful titles were re-released as the compilation Die Ralf Glau Edition in 1991.

After completing his studies in product design, Ralf Glau worked as a game designer for Ascon , later known as Ascaron, where he worked on several games, above all on Elisabeth I and the remakes of Hanse and Vermeer.
