Niederhofen is a district of the city of Oettingen in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries in Bavaria .
The village is located south of the Oettinger Forest and is just under four kilometers from Oettingen. The Augraben flows through it, a right tributary of the Wörnitz . Several settlement areas are grouped around the old town.
In 1416 Niederhofen was named Niedererlbach after the neighboring town of Erlbach and was owned by the Counts of Oettingen. The chapel in honor of the saints five wounds was built in 1730.
On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Niederhofen was incorporated into Oettingen together with its district of Lohe as part of the municipal reform. The formerly independent municipality had a coat of arms.
The district road DON 4 runs past the village in the west and leads to the state road St 2214 and to Oettingen. A local road branches off to the east to the state road St 2221 .
