The district of Schlüchtern was a district in Hesse that existed from 1946 until the regional reform in 1974 . Since then, his area has been part of the Main-Kinzig district . The district town was Schlüchtern .

geography

In early 1974 the district bordered clockwise in the east, beginning with the districts of Bad Kissingen and Main-Spessart in Bavaria, as well as the district of Gelnhausen , the Vogelsbergkreis and the district of Fulda in Hesse.

history

The Schlüchtern district was formed in 1821 on the basis of an electoral ordinance as a district of the Hessian province of Hanau . As a result of the March Revolution , the Schlüchtern district was dissolved on October 31, 1848 and incorporated into the newly formed Hanau district. On September 15, 1851, the old district was restored. In 1860/61 the Bavarian part of Züntersbach was incorporated into the district of Schlüchtern .

With the unification of Kurhessen with Prussia after the German War in 1866 , the Schlüchtern district became Prussian. In 1867 it became part of the new administrative district of Kassel and in 1868 of the newly formed province of Hessen-Nassau . On April 1, 1944, the district of Schlüchtern was incorporated from the province of Kurhessen into the newly formed province of Nassau (after the end of the war: administrative district of Wiesbaden ). In April 1968, the 1946 changed Country circular Schluechtern to the dissolution of the district of Wiesbaden in Darmstadt Region .

Until the first municipal mergers in 1969, the district comprised 46 municipalities, including the three cities of Bad Soden , Salmünster and Schlüchtern, as well as the manor district of Spessart . In 1972 the demarcation of the district changed:

A series of further parish mergers reduced the number of parishes in the district to 14 by June 1974.

As part of the district reform in Hesse , the district of Schlüchtern went up on July 1, 1974 together with the districts of Hanau and Gelnhausen and the independent city of Hanau in the Main-Kinzig district , the most populous district in Hesse. At the same time, further incorporations took place on July 1, 1974, so that the towns of Bad Soden-Salmünster and Schlüchtern and the municipalities of Sinntal , Steinau and Züntersbach joined the Main-Kinzig district from the old Schlüchtern district in addition to the Spessart estate .
