Mottgers is a district of the Sinntal community in the Main-Kinzig district in East Hesse . The place is located in the valley of the Schmalen Sinn , 10.5 km southeast of Schlüchtern , and has about 800 inhabitants.

history

Mottgers was first mentioned in documents in 923, when Count Hessi donated his entire property in Mottgers (at that time still "Otekaresdorf" ) to the Fulda monastery . In 1167, the Fulda branch founded Kloster Schlüchtern Dorf und Zehent in Mottgers. From there it comes to the rule of Hanau and thus later to the county of Hanau and then to the county of Hanau-Münzenberg . It was part of the Altengronau court . The Counts of Hanau did not succeed in integrating the Altengronau court into the overall territorialization of their county. The influence of other noble houses has always been massively present here. In 1549, the von Thüngen family owned the tithe in Mottgers.

After the death of the last Hanau count, Johann Reinhard III. , 1736, the Landgraves of Hessen-Kassel inherited the entire County of Hanau-Munzenberg. Mottgers later belonged to the Electorate of Hesse and, after its administrative reform of 1821, to the district of Schlüchtern and the Schwarzenfels Justice Office .

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Sinntal was formed on July 1, 1972 through the voluntary merger of the previously independent municipalities of Mottgers, Schwarzenfels and Weichersbach. For Mottgers, a local district with a local advisory council and local councilor was formed for the remaining parts of the village .

Train destination sign of the record run

On May 1, 1988, a world record run of the ICE prototype InterCityExperimental started at Würzburg main station . The multiple unit reached a speed of 406.9 km / h on the specially designed section between Würzburg and Mottgers, thus holding the world record for wheel-rail vehicles .

Historical forms of names

In documents that have survived, Mottgers was mentioned under the following names (the year of mention in brackets):

  • Otekaresdorf (923)
  • Otekares (1167)
  • Oetenkars (1317)
  • Motkars (1355)
  • Motgars (1358)
  • Motiges (1494)
  • Muttigers (1582)
  • Motgarts (1549)

Church conditions

In 1167 the village belonged to the Ramholz parish of the Schlüchtern monastery. In 1549 his parish included the villages of Oberzell , Schwarzenfels , Weichersbach and Züntersbach . At that time, the Schlüchtern monastery held the church patronage . Today Mottgers has two churches, a Protestant church, which is located directly in the village, and a Catholic church, which is located in the settlement area. The Evangelical Church is the larger of the two, as there are more Protestants than Catholics in Mottgers. The Protestant church is also the main church of the parish of Weichersbach-Schwarzenfels-Mottgers, as Mottgers also has the Protestant pastoral office.

Economy and Infrastructure

There is a factory of the caravan manufacturer Knaus Tabbert in the village . After the company was taken over by the Dutch investment company HTP Investments on January 1, 2009 , the future of the Mottgers production site was initially unclear. In September 2013, after a construction period of a good 15 months, a new production hall was put into operation. According to the company, the total investment was around six million euros.

The nearest train stations are on the Flieden – Gemünden line and are in Jossa and Sterbfritz . The high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg crosses under the new Mottgers housing estate. The Mottgers depot is also located in the Mottgers area. Mottgers is on the bus routes MKK-91 (Schlüchtern Bahnhof - Sterbfritz - Mottgers - Jossa (- Marjoss)), MKK-96 (Züntersbach - Schwarzenfels - Sterbfritz - Schlüchtern Untertor) and MKK-97 (Züntersbach - Weichersbach - Altengronau), which go to the stops Mottgers Mittelstraße (MKK-91 / MKK-97) in the center and Mottgers Brückenstraße (MKK-91 / MKK96 / MKK97) in the settlement area. Also on weekends there are 3 - 4 buses per day on the MKK-91 line in each direction (to and from the train station in Schlüchtern). The buses end at the Mottgers Brückenstraße stop, turn there and drive back to Schlüchtern. This makes Mottgers the only place in the real Sinn valley that can also be reached by bus on weekends.

A projected connecting curve between the Kinzig Valley Railway and the high-speed line is called Mottgers-Spange .

education

Mottgers has its own elementary school. Two teachers are currently teaching classes 1–4, which they split up two to two. In 2011 the old school building in the center of the village (Brückenstraße 2) was demolished and replaced by a new building. This now covers 335 m² and generates part of its energy from solar cells. Almost € 950,000 was invested in this new building. Due to the low number of pupils in the districts of the Sinntal community, consideration was given to closing individual primary schools. Mottgers was also in the process of being closed. However, this could be averted. Mottgers Primary School has its own association.
