Weiperz is a district in the municipality of Sinntal in the Main-Kinzig district in East Hesse . It is located in the valley of the Wolperbach , about 2 km west of Sterbfritz , the seat of the municipal administration.

history

origin

Weiperz was first mentioned in a document on March 19, 907, when the last East Franconian Carolingian Ludwig IV approved an exchange of goods between the Fulda monastery and the Echternach monastery .

Origin of the name

There is no concrete documentary evidence of the beginnings of the village. However, in 907 there were two documents naming a person named Wigbraht. This will probably be the founder of the village and namesake. The current name "Weiperz" is derived from "ad Wigbrahtes".

19th and 20th centuries

The nail forge trade had a long tradition in Weiperz. In the 19th century the small village of Weiperz was the headquarters of the nail smithy. Around 30 craftsmen were employed in this area of activity around 1870. One of the last German nail smiths, Ignaz Kraft (born July 31, 1844), lived and worked in Weiperz until his death in 1933. The nails that were manufactured in the Weiperzer forge differed in betting board, cross, frame, butt, bar and pen nails. The thousand cost an average of 1.50 marks. They obtained the iron they needed for the forge from small racing fire huts on the Vogelsberg. To this day, the residents of Weiperz are referred to as "Naalplätzer" in the neighboring villages of the Bergwinkel.

Furthermore, around Weiperz was dug for clay and sand, which some clay pits still prove today.

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent municipality of Weiperz became a voluntary district of Sterbfritz on December 1, 1969 , which itself became part of the Main-Kinzig district on July 1, 1974 , and lost its independence by state law in 1972 formed community Sinntal was incorporated . For, as for the other formerly independent communities, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was formed.

Culture and sights

Weiperz is known as a "music village" because of the numerous music and choral clubs in relation to the population (almost 600). In Weiperz there is the Trachtenkapelle Musikfreunde Weiperz (member of the Hessischer Musikverband e.V. * Hessischer Verband für Tanz- und Trachtenpflege), a Musikverein 1924 e.V. V., a mixed choir "Frohsinn" and the men's choir "Wolpergrund".

All streets of the village are named after composers, and an international music and costume festival has already taken place in Weiperz several times.

In addition to the four musically active clubs, there is a sports club SG Weiperz, the volunteer fire brigade, a theater group and a youth club in Weiperz.
