Marborn is a district of Steinau an der Strasse in the Main-Kinzig district in East Hesse .

Geographical location

Marborn is located in the northeast of the Main-Kinzig district. It borders in the north on the place Sarrod , in the east on Steinau , in the south on the place Ahl , in the south-west on the place Romsthal and in the north-west on the place Kerbersdorf .

history

Marborn got its name from a small fountain , the Marienborn. The village was mainly shaped by ecclesiastical influences. The first documented mention dates from 924 AD. In 1814 a Catholic parish was founded and separated from the parish in Salmünster . Forty years later, the congregation got its prayer room and only in 1894 did it get its own clergyman . The Protestant Christians belong to the parish Steinau an der Straße .

In April 1945 the American troops penetrated through Marborn down into the Kinzig valley . In the center of Marborn this one was artillery position ( Long-Tom -Geschütze, 155mm M1) dislocated, which on 1 April 1945 by high-angle fire , the soap factory has taken "Three Tower" under attack and thereby largely destroyed. The wave of refugees and displaced persons did not stop at the village northwest of Steinau. In 1950 there were 110 “new citizens” among the total of 590 inhabitants.

In Marborn there is the Sportgemeinschaft 1927 Marborn eV, which has several soccer teams and a hiking department, the choral society MGV Einigkeit Marborn with its male choir, the mixed choir "Haste Töne" and the children's choir "Neue Töne". There is also the volunteer fire brigade here , which also includes the youth fire brigade and several dance, guard and gymnastics groups. The fire brigade maintains a partnership with the voluntary fire brigade Krahne in Brandenburg. There is also a KJG group in the village, to which a children and youth theater group are affiliated, as well as the square dance club "Catstones".

  • Josef Freienstein (1920–1985), architect and politician (CDU)
  • Brother Paternus Paul (Alois) Seipel FSC, born on March 21, 1908 in Marborn, Hesse. He worked as a school brother for 11 years. As a school brother he came to Manila at the beginning of World War II, where he was killed in a Japanese massacre in 1945. The Catholic Church venerates him as a witness of faith and a martyr.
