Josef Freienstein

Josef Freienstein (born July 2, 1920 in Marborn ; † December 1985 ) was a German architect and politician ( CDU ).

Freienstein was born as the son of a site manager and community representative in Marborn, Hesse, which today belongs to the town of Steinau an der Straße . After elementary school he attended secondary school in Marborn and Kassel and completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk by 1939. During the Second World War he was called up for military service and was taken prisoner. He then completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and studied at the State Building School in Idstein and Frankfurt am Main. In 1949 he passed the state examination as a civil engineer. He then worked as an architect and studied at the Technical University of Karlsruhe . In 1953 he settled in Mannheim as a freelance architect .

From 1946 to 1978 Freienstein was a member of the CDU. He led the local association in Mannheim-Lindenhof and the CDU medium -sized business association in Mannheim. In addition, he was a member of the Mannheim CDU district executive committee and the state executive committee of the CDU SME Association. From 1959 to 1965 he was spokesman for the CDU in the Mannheim-Lindenhof district council and then until 1980 a member of the Mannheim municipal council . In 1979 he founded the Christian Social Association and became its chairman.

He was socially involved as city prince in 1961 at the Mannheim Carnival and on the Board of Trustees of the Mannheim City Deanery . Freienstein was married and had two children.

His works include: Ferd warehouse and administration house . Schulze in Mannheim-Neckarau 1955, Caritasheim Maria Frieden in Mannheim-Neckarstadt-Ost 1958, kindergarten and St. Bernhard Church in Mannheim-Neckarstadt-Ost 1961, administration building Stadtkasse in Mannheim city center 1966.
