The district of Hünfeld was a district in Hesse that existed until the regional reform in 1972 . Today his area belongs mainly to the district of Fulda ; the area of today's community Haunetal (main town Neukirchen ) was given to the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg . The district seat was in Hünfeld .
Neighboring areas
Beginning in 1972, the district bordered in a clockwise direction to the northeast with the Bad Salzungen district in the Suhl district of the GDR and the Hessian districts of Fulda , Lauterbach and Hersfeld .
history
The district of Hünfeld was founded in 1821 in the Electorate of Hesse . In 1856, the Rödergrund community moved from the Hünfeld district to the Fulda district and became part of the Rödergrund-Egelmes community there .
After the annexation of the electorate by Prussia as a result of the German War in 1866, the district belonged to the administrative district of Kassel in the Prussian province of Hessen-Nassau .
On April 1, 1881, the communities of Oberstoppel and Unterstoppel and the Oberförsterei Burghaun manor district changed from the Hersfeld district to the Hünfeld district.
Since 1946 the district was part of the state of Hesse . After Oberufhausen and Unterufhausen were merged on April 1, 1958 to form the municipality of Ufhausen , the district of Hünfeld comprised 77 municipalities, one of which, Hünfeld, had town charter. In 1968 and 1971 the district of Hünfeld was downsized twice:
- On September 1, 1968, the municipality of Glaam left the district and was incorporated into the municipality of Ransbach in the district of Hersfeld.
- On February 1, 1971, the municipality of Mansbach left the district and was merged with the municipality of Ransbach to form the new municipality of Hohenroda in the Hersfeld district.
As a result of a series of further community mergers , which also resulted in the new communities Haunetal , Kiebitzgrund and Nüsttal , the number of communities in the district decreased to 24 by July 1972.
As part of the Hessian district reform , the district of Hünfeld was dissolved on August 1, 1972:
- The community of Haunetal, into which the community of Unterstoppel was incorporated at the same time , became part of the new district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg
- The Erdmannrode community was incorporated into the Schenklengsfeld community in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district.
- The communities of Bodes and Fischbach were incorporated into the community of Hauneck in the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg.
- The entire remaining part of the district was incorporated into the Fulda district. At the same time, further incorporations took place on August 1, 1972, so that the communities of Burghaun , Eiterfeld , Hünfeld, Nüsttal and Rasdorf joined the Fulda district from the old district of Hünfeld .
