history

The old court linden tree in front of the church

Erdmannrode was first mentioned under the place name at that time Erckmerode in 1478. The church is a small building with a narrow, high rectangular choir. It was built in 1573, raised in half-timbering in 1794 and expanded to the west in 1958, whereby the old west portal was reused; the ridge above the choir carries a weather vane dated 1799. In front of the church, the old court linden tree has been preserved in an octagonal wall ring. A third of the population was Jewish in the 19th century . This Jewish community was founded in the 18th century and existed until 1928. In 1848 there were serious riots in Erdmannrode in which four houses of Jewish families were attacked and robbed. There was a synagogue, the property is at the Hohlweg junction. It was sold in 1930 and then demolished. There was also a Jewish elementary school, a ritual bath and a Jewish cemetery, which can still be found in the forest today.

On August 1, 1972, Erdmannrode , which had previously belonged to the district of Hünfeld , was incorporated into the community of Schenklengsfeld.
