Konrode is a district of the community Schenklengsfeld in the eastern Hessian district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg .

Geographical location

The place joins directly to the west of the main town Schenklengsfeld. Konrode lies on both banks of the Ringbach, which flows into the Solz in Schenklengsfeld .

history

Konrode was first mentioned under the place name Cornede at the time . The place was also occupied on April 1, 1292 as vilula Conerode , 1482 as Conerode and 1505 as Cunroder Aue . At this time the place was probably a desert and belonged to the Landeck office . It is not known when Konrode was inhabited again. The Lords of Buchenau also held hersfeld fiefs in this period .

In 1639 the place was mentioned as Conurode and it was not until 1895 that the current name became established. Around 1800 there was the Heimers Church, a chapel that belonged to an estate.

On February 1, 1971, Konrode was incorporated into the community of Schenklengsfeld as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

Atonement Cross

The atonement cross in Konrode

At the community center is since 1986 a stone cross from sandstone . Before that, it was walled up in the bank wall of the Ringbach below a Konrode-Schenklengsfeld road bridge. But this was not its original location. This is just as little known as the event for which the cross was placed. One side has an incision that depicts drapery scissors, on the other side you can only see two incised parallel lines. It is therefore assumed that the clothmaker's scissors are a symbol of the status of a murdered weaver and the parallel lines are a fragment of a cutting or stabbing weapon (the murder weapon). It is therefore probably an atonement cross, the age of which is unknown.
