history

The 22 meter high water tower in the village

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1387 as Wustinfelde . The place name then changed via Wustnfelt and Wustvelt to the current name. The church was built in 1815. However, this was later torn down or destroyed and today the village community center and the bell tower stand in its place , with a plaque commemorating the victims of the First and Second World Wars .

In the north of the district of the place is the village desert Heckenhausen .

On August 1, 1972, Wüstfeld was incorporated into the community of Schenklengsfeld as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

In more recent times, educational-therapeutic residential groups have been set up in the village (old sawmill).

Culture and sights

Buildings

The water tower built in 1932 became the landmark of Wüstfeld . It was supplied from a spring under the structure. The tower is 22 meters high and its water basin has a capacity of 63 m³. When the place was connected to the Schenklengsfeld ring line in 1983, the water tower was shut down. To mark its 75th anniversary in 2007, the tower was renovated with the substantial participation of a citizens' initiative.

societies

Three clubs are currently active in Wüstfeld. These include the GSV Wüstfeld, which organizes the village festival and the Hutzelfire every year; the Kirmesburschen Wüstfeld, who are responsible for the organization of the fair, and the volunteer fire brigade . There are also the "singing women" who sing on special birthdays, at the fair, at the village festival and at some funeral services.
