Until the end of 2012, Raschvella was one of the four fractions of the Lower Engadine municipality of Ramosch, alongside Vnà , Seraplana and the main village . Raschvella has been part of the municipality of Valsot since January 1st, 2013 .

Location and infrastructure

Raschvella is 1150 m on the right side of the Inn . The hamlet consists of five houses and stables. Raschvella has been inhabited all year round since 1995 and has 5 residents. In 1957 one house was inhabited. The ruins of old houses are still visible in Raschvella. The existing houses, however, are maintained and maintained. Two of them are inhabited all year round.

The main thoroughfare of the Engadine originally ran through the settlement. In the 18th century the main road was moved to the opposite side of the valley. The road leading to the village is cleared in winter after snowfalls. The municipality of Valsot is responsible for the evacuation. If there is a danger of avalanches, the road will be closed for all passage (including pedestrians).

The residents of Raschvella are not connected to the public water network and therefore have to finance and maintain the source catchment themselves.

Falling rocks

On July 30, 2009, a falling rock weighing 8 tons destroyed parts of a residential building and a stable and caused property damage of 50,000 Swiss francs.

At the time when massive wood was felled for the salt pans in Hall in Tirol in the Engadine , there was almost no forest in Raschvella either. This massively increased the risk of falling rocks. As a result, the inhabitants built immense stone walls by hand above the village, which averted the danger of falling rocks. These protective walls are still clearly visible today. They are now filled with rubble and stones and have adapted to the steep landscape. Nevertheless, they still slow down rolling material. The forest has grown lush again and is healthy.

Flora and fauna

Around the village of Raschvella, flora and fauna have developed almost undisturbed. There were few cuts in nature, little stress from hikers, cyclists and mushroom pickers. Practically all game species occur.

In addition to many types of orchids, Raschvella is also home to the alpine healing bell ( Primula matthioli ).

geology

Below the houses there is about 4 - 6 m rubble, debris and mud material from the Ice Age. Including massive, dry rock well below the level of the Inn. A small subterranean stream flows under the houses - with a delay after major rainfall. The meadows below the village are therefore quite humid even in dry times.
