Tithe barn in Unterstoppel

Unterstoppel is a village in the market town of Haunetal and lies between Bad Hersfeld and Hünfeld at the foot of the Stoppelsberg in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in East Hesse .

Geography and location

Unterstoppel is located in the Vorderrhön at the foot of the 524 m high stubble mountain , which forms part of the Soisberger Kuppenrhön and the Hessian skittles . The closest neighboring town is Oberstoppel , one kilometer away , and in the wider area are Wehrda , Rhina , Steinbach (district in the market town of Burghaun) and Dittlofrod (district in the market town of Eiterfeld).

history

Ober- and Unterstoppel were first mentioned in a document in 1241 as "Stupfele" or "Stoppel". The reason for the mention was the transfer of goods by the abbot of the Fulda monastery at the time , Konrad III. from Malkes , to his convent. Subsequently, the places fell into the possession of the nobles von Haune, in 1409 both places then passed into the possession of the Landgraves of Hesse . The tithe barn at the southern exit of the village bears an inscription that refers to the year 1784. Like Oberstoppel, Unterstoppel belonged to the Hersfeld district until 1881. In order to simplify the administration, both villages were added to the Hünfeld district in 1881. In the course of the dissolution of the district of Hünfeld and its incorporation into the district of Fulda in 1972, the municipality of Haunetal and thus Unterstoppel were assigned to the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg. Ecclesiastically, Unterstoppel belongs to Oberstoppel, where there is a Protestant Baroque church from the 18th century. The Antonius Church (1491) originally in Unterstoppel on the southwestern outskirts fell into disrepair.

Incorporation

On August 1, 1972, was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse by state law to the then district Hünfeld belonging in place until then located also in the district of Hünfeld community Haunetal who moved to the new district Rotenburg, incorporated.
