Historical map (1905)

The Wolfhagen district was a district in Hesse until 1972 . Most of its former area is now part of the Kassel district . The district seat was in Wolfhagen .

Neighboring areas

At the beginning of 1972, the district bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the Warburg district (in North Rhine-Westphalia ) and the Hofgeismar , Kassel , Fritzlar-Homberg and Waldeck districts (all in Hesse).

history

The Wolfhagen district was founded in 1821 in the Electorate of Hesse . After its annexation by Prussia as a result of the German War in 1866, it belonged to the Kassel administrative district of the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau . In 1896 the community of Großenhof moved from the Kassel district to the Wolfhagen district and became part of the Martinhagen community .

Since 1946 the district was part of the German state of Hesse .

On December 31, 1971, the municipality of Martinhagen left the district and was incorporated into the municipality of Hoof in the Kassel district.

As part of the Hessian district reform , most of the district was merged on August 1, 1972 with the neighboring districts of Kassel and Hofgeismar to form a new district of Kassel . The city of Volkmarsen became part of what was then the district of Waldeck .
