Wettesingen is the second largest district of the municipality of Breuna in the Kassel district , Hesse .
location
Wettesingen (old name: Witisungen) is located north of the main town of Breuna in the Habichtswald Nature Park in the north Hessian mountainous region. On the northern outskirts of the village, federal road 7 passes the village. The state road 3312 and the Holsterbach run through the village.
history
Wettesingen is one of the oldest villages in the Kassel district and was first mentioned in the year 850 in the Fulda traditions of the Codex Eberhardi . In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Donnersberg-Kugelsburg and thus belonged to the Counts of Everstein . The burial mounds found in the community forest, which date from the Bronze Age , testify to an earlier settlement of the area around Wettesingen . In total, more than 30 burial mounds were found on an area of 1.5 by 1.5 km, which can mainly be combined into four loose groups of four to ten hills. There are cairns and mounds of earth, some of which are flattened and blurred.
As a border village, Wettesingen was exposed to the disputes between the Paderborn Monastery and the Landgraves of Hesse for a long time .
The last male offspring of the Raven von Calenberg sold half of the Hessian fief in the village to Heinrich V. von Gudenberg in 1457 . After the von Gudenberg family died out in 1534, the fiefdom came to the von der Malsburg from 1535 to 1824 .
The church in Wettesingen was initially under the patronage of the Counts of Everstein, from the middle of the 13th century under that of the Cistercian nunnery in Wormeln and later under the patronage of Mr. Rabe von Calenberg. In 1813 it was transferred to the Electorate of Hesse .
In 1754, by mutual agreement between the bishopric of Paderborn and the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel, stones were set as markings, but they were destroyed in the Seven Years War . In addition to the new year 1778, the replacement stones bear the coat of arms (a cross) and the letters WABZP (Wilhelm Anton Bishop of Paderborn) on the Westphalian side and the Hessian lion and the abbreviation FLZH for Friedrich Landgraf zu Hessen on the other . KP ( Kingdom of Prussia ) and an eagle as well as KH ( Kurhessen ) and again the lion were carved into later stones . Modern landmarks were added in 2000: They put a plaque in memory of the 1150th anniversary of Wettesing, which was celebrated on a grand scale that year.
As part of the Hessian territorial reform, the previously independent communities of Breuna , Wettesingen, Oberlistingen and Niederlistingen merged in 1972 ; Breuna and the district of Rhöda had already formed an administrative community beforehand .
Bioenergy village
With regional biomass from maize , beet, whole-plant silage and solid manure , the bioenergy village Wettesingen has been the first and only village in Germany to have a complete electricity and heat supply from renewable energies since 2014 . On a communal initiative to expand the biogas plant with an attached combined heat and power plant, which has existed since 2007, the household-sponsored Wettesinger energy cooperative was founded in 2010. Supported by the cooperative, a second CHP with 366 kW output, three pellet boilers (total up to 1640 kW) for the peak load and two buffer storage tanks have since been put into operation and integrated into a 10 km long local heating network. In 2014, 192 households and 4 public buildings were supplied with local heating and individual combustion systems. In 2017, the municipality of Breuna was named an energy municipality by the Renewable Energy Agency.
Buildings
The oldest building is St. Andrew's Church from the 12th century. The defensive tower that still exists is the oldest part of the structure. Inside the church, in the vault and on the walls of the choir, there are late Gothic paintings from 1485, which were whitewashed after the Reformation and only exposed again in 1934 during renovation work. The font from 1600 has been preserved.
The Catholic Herz-Jesu-Kirche was founded in 1952. It belongs to the pastoral association St. Heimerad - Wolfhager Land.
Several half-timbered houses from the 18th and 19th centuries have also been preserved.
Rittergut Wettesingen
In the place there is an old manor with its historical park. A precursor could be a Meierhof mentioned in the early 14th century, but whether the manor really goes back to the farm is disputed. Until 1813 the estate was owned by the von Calenberg family, the Westheimer Linie, and in 1826 it was sold to the economist Carl Wrisberg . The current buildings of the manor were erected between 1837 and 1851. In 1873 the Wrisberg family sold the estate to the merchant Hugo Julius Schuchard , as Carl's son-in-law and successor, Theodor Bang , died in the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 . Hugo Julius Schuchard was also the owner of the nearby Calenberg Castle , which he bequeathed to his four children after his death. His eldest daughter, Elisabeth Schuchard , also inherited the manor. Between 1945 and 1947 Elisabeth bequeathed the estate to her granddaughters Jutta and daughter Birgitte von Wrisberg , who emerged from the marriage of their daughter Hildegard to the officer Gerhard von Wrisberg . The von Wrisberg family lived in the Wettesingen manor until it was sold in 2020. The manor was acquired by the management consultant Olaf Christian Bank and moved into from mid-2020.
