Escheberg is a district of Zierenberg in the northern Hessian district of Kassel with about 30 inhabitants.

Geographical location

The small village of Escheberg is located in the north of the Habichtswälder Bergland just under 5 km northwest of the Zierenberg core town and about 850 m southeast of the summit of the Escheberg , which is 448.9  m above sea level. NHN highest elevation in the Malsburg Forest .

The county road  88, which leads south from the state road  3080 ( Breuna - Oberlistingen ) , leads through Escheberg , to which the county road 87 ( Laar - Oberelsungen ) connects to the east of the village .

history

The place was the ancestral seat of the lower aristocratic family von Escheberg, which existed from the 13th to the 15th century .

The former Ödinghausen manor , located in the Escheberg district, was closed in 1965 during the construction of the federal motorway 44 ( Dortmund - Kassel ).

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , Escheberg was incorporated into the city of Zierenberg on a voluntary basis on December 31, 1970 .

Escheberg essentially consists of a half-timbered manor and a smaller farm yard. This is connected by a former orangery with an English-style castle park. The park is open to the public. There is also an 18-hole golf course .

Escheberg Castle

Escheberg Castle , built in Gothic style in 1530 , emerged from a half-timbered manor house. The castle is privately owned by the von der Malsburg family and cannot be visited.

During the Romantic era , in the first half of the 19th century, the castle was a cultural meeting place for numerous poets, painters and musicians. The poet Emanuel Geibel began to write the famous poem "May has come ..." on the way to the castle in 1841.
