Altendorf is the smallest district of the small town of Naumburg in North Hesse in the Kassel district .

geography

The village is located about 6 km south of Naumburg in the Elbe Valley , it is bordered by the hills of the Hardtkopf in the east and the Old Forest (southern branch of the Waldecker Forest ) in the west. The area is characterized by the Elbe floodplain and fields, which in turn merge into a dense mixed forest.

history

Altendorf is first mentioned in a document in 1198. From the 13th to the 16th century Altendorf was, together with Elbenberg and today's deserted beltershausen , part of the Elber Mark , a marrow cooperative under the sovereignty of the St. Alban Abbey in Mainz , which appointed the Lords of Elben as bailiffs . With the introduction of the Reformation in Hesse in 1526 at the latest, they succeeded in making their bailiwick into possession. After the male line of the Lords of Elben died out, the fiefdom passed to the noble family von Buttlar in 1559 ; the Electorate of Mainz remained the feudal lord . In 1803, Altendorf fell to the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss .

In 1579 21 households are mentioned. In the 19th century the population rose to 245 people. It peaked in the 1970s with 292 people and is now around 240.

On December 31, 1971, Altendorf was incorporated into the city of Naumburg.

Stone box

In 1908 a stone box grave from the 3rd millennium BC was opened on the outskirts of Altendorf . Discovered and exposed in 1934. It is attributed to the megalithic Wartberg culture and contained tools, pottery and the remains of 235 people. There are no visible remains of the grave today.

Burgstall and desert

On the southern edge of the district at the lower, eastern end of a flat hill north of the Heiligenberg on the bank of the Eder tributary Elbe , where it describes a narrow northeast loop in its generally southern course, the Elbe loop of the Burgstall Beltershausen is on the left and the loop of the formerly associated place, today's Beltershausen desert .

church

The Bonifatiuskirche

The Bonifatius Church is located on a slight hill in the village center. Its tower dates from the 12th century, but the current nave was built in 1830.

A chapel is confirmed in the inventory of today's Immenhausen desert . Pope Innocent (1198–1216) donated the church patronage of the chapels in Ippinghausen , Altendorf and Herberge to the Archdiocese of Riga . In 1444 the Hessian landgraves took over the patronage.
