Azteca México - Azteca for short - was the official name of the match ball for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico .

properties

With Azteca, the sports manufacturer adidas presented the first fully synthetic match ball, which also became the official match ball for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. It was thus largely protected against moisture and reduced the change in weight in the rain, so that the playability could be kept constant.

The ball was designed by Rebecca Martinez, who was inspired by the art of the Aztecs in architecture and wall painting. Although the ball was also produced in other colors, such as yellow or orange, to respond to poor lighting conditions, only the ball with a black design was used during the World Cup.

Furthermore, two replicas of the ball named Azteca Puebla and Azteca Acapulco were presented.
