Adidas Tricolore

The adidas Tricolore ball from 1998

Tricolore is the official name of the match ball distributed by adidas for the 1998 World Cup in France .

The ball was the first to have a foam filling under the leather skin and was considered to be the most modern football to date. The name Tricolore is deliberately ambiguous: On the one hand, it reminds of the hosts, whose national soccer team is also known as the “ Equipe Tricolore ”. On the other hand, it was the first World Cup ball that had three colors (blue, white and red) and thus received the French flag le tricolore .

After the Telstar Durlast, Tricolore was the first ball to be manufactured outside of Europe. It was produced in Morocco and Indonesia and sewn together in Tunisia .
