The Henze & Ketterer Gallery in Wichtrach / Bern is an art gallery for modern and contemporary art that represents works of art from the Classical Modern period , German Expressionism , in particular the artist group Brücke , German abstraction and contemporary artists .

history

Campione d'Italia

In 1970 Ingeborg Henze-Ketterer and Wolfgang Henze founded the Galleria Henze in Campione d'Italia . This specialized in prints of German Expressionism, the German abstraction of the 1950s and by living artists. In close cooperation with the Roman Norbert Ketterer gallery , also run by the father or father-in-law in the Italian exclave, showed these exhibitions and published catalogs with works of art by the artists represented. The copyrights of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner were jointly administered and an archive of the artist's works was kept.

Wichtrach near Bern

This activity has been expanded in Wichtrach since 1993. The «Galerie Henze & Ketterer AG», organized in the legal form of a stock corporation , was founded for this purpose. In Wichtrach, exhibitions are also organized on the artists represented, accompanied by extensive catalogs of offers. The gallery building covers an exhibition area of ​​around 600 square meters on three floors, where mostly three different exhibitions are shown. Further exhibitions can be shown in the art depot designed by Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer, the architects of the Kirchner Museum Davos , which is located directly between the gallery building and the main street. The gallery regularly takes part in international art fairs such as Art Cologne , The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) in Maastricht and Art Karlsruhe and maintains several artist archives, in particular that of the German Expressionist and Brücke artist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner .

Riehen near Basel

Since 2005, the branch, Galerie Henze & Ketterer & Triebold Riehen , managed by Alexandra Henze Triebold and Marc Triebold , has also organized exhibitions on the represented artists and artist groups. This emerged from the merger of Galerie Triebold, which has been active in Basel, later Rheinfelden, and the Galerie Henze & Ketterer Wichtrach / Bern since 1986.

In 2011 the gallery in Wichtrach showed the exhibition Opera al nero with works by Giovanni Manfredini .

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Archive

Since 1954 Roman Norbert Ketterer was the administrator of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's estate . In connection with this activity, the artist's work was first archived. From 1980 this was systematically continued, first in the Galleria Henze in Campione, later in the Galerie Henze & Ketterer Wichtrach / Bern, where every published information about Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and his work is still collected, cataloged and archived. Part of the archive is also the complete literature by and about the artist and his work. Another task of the archive is to clarify questions of authenticity. Wolfgang Henze is the head of the Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Archive .

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's estate administrators have been his daughter Ingeborg Henze-Ketterer and his son Günther Ketterer since the death of Roman Norbert Ketterer in 2002.
