The Postal Beltershausen is an Outbound castle in the district Altendorf, about 800 m southwest of the district Altendorf the town Naumburg in northern Hesse Kassel district .

location

Volkmarser Weg: the Burgstall is located slightly in the middle behind the dark, small forest group, not visible

The Burgstall is located a few hundred meters west of today's state road  3214 at the lower, eastern end of a flat hill north of the Heiligenberg on the north bank of the Eder tributary Elbe , where it describes a narrow northeast loop in its generally southern course. Around 300 m to the southwest, and on the other bank of the Elbe, was the village of Beltershausen , which fell desolate in the Thirty Years War and had been in the possession of the Lords of Hertingshausen since at least 1384 .

history

It is not certain when the castle was built. It was in the area of the Mainz office and court of Naumburg and was at least temporarily owned by Bernhard von Herzenrode in the 15th century and by the Hessian ministerial Ludwig von Wildungen in 1451 . It was destroyed in 1451 by Reinhard von Dalwigk and Friedrich IV von Hertingshausen during the federal feud , allegedly because Bernhard von Herzenrode built the castle despite its prohibition and Ludwig von Wildungen was their enemy. Accordingly, the castle would not have existed long before it was destroyed. The last remains were broken off in the years 1760–1788.

Only the 245  m above sea level is preserved today NHN high castle hill, with the remnants of former moats that are barely recognizable . The field name "Bei der Burg" is reminiscent of the former castle complex.
