The Wallburg Großenritte is a Celtic hill fort on the Burgberg west of Großenritte , a western district of Baunatal in the Kassel district in northern Hesse .

The almost continuously wooded castle hill is 439.6  m above sea level. NHN high extinct volcano on the eastern edge of the Langenberge belonging to the Habichtswälder Bergland .

On the approximately 200 × 120 m large summit plateau there was a prehistoric hilltop settlement that was probably only inhabited temporarily. On the flatter west side, the settlement was protected by a partial ring wall, of which remains are still present today. On the three other sides, the steep, rocky mountain slopes offered protection, so that no walls were necessary there.

The oldest finds there that testify to human presence come from the Neolithic Michelsberg culture , but permanent settlement at this time is unlikely. Other finds come from the Hallstatt period , around 800–400 BC. BC, when the mountain plateau was inhabited for a long time and was probably already fortified.
