The castle Burguffeln formerly, Borck Uffeln called, is a former castle and current location of St. Margaret's Church in the district Burguffeln (Bremer Straße- At the church yard) town Grebenstein in Kassel district in northern Hesse .

description

The castle was probably built in the 9th century. This is indicated by a document from the Fulda monastery in which the place is mentioned for the first time as "Ufelohun" and in a document from the year 965 "ufloun et altera ufloun" (Uffels and the other Ufeline) could be meant. For a long time the fortified and walled castle seat, called "Borckuffeln" since the beginning of the 16th century, was associated with the Lords of Uffeln . In the Grebensteiner Salbuch from 1554 it says under “Dorfburg Uofeln” “Arndt von Uoffelen has the Kemenade and Burgseß there”. The street-side house bar, consisting of a bricked ground floor with attached framework and a total of nine street-side dormers , can probably be assigned to the medieval castle.

In the 10th century was in the bower the St. Margaret's Church in Gothic style as a small pillar basilica built.

In the middle of the 18th century, the Uffel castle property was transferred to the later Hessian Landgrave Friedrich II , who then also had the small Gothic pillar basilica so skilfully rebuilt that the church, which was consecrated to St. Margaret before the Reformation , took on its main forms of medieval Gothic church had received. The castle seat is converted into a managed property ( state domain ).
