The Falkenberg castle ruin is an abandoned hilltop castle near the core town of Zierenberg in the northern Hessian district of Kassel .

Geographical location

The remains of the Falkenberg castle ruins are located in the Malsburg Forest in the northern part of the Habichtswald Nature Park around 2.5 km northwest of Zierenberg on the densely wooded Falkenberg ( 361.6  m above sea  level ), which slopes down towards the east towards the warm . The Zierenberg hamlet of Friedrichsaue is located about 750 m south-southeast of the former castle .

history

The castle was probably built in the mid-13th century by the Lords of Forcella Burg-Malsburg to the Warmetal between the castle Scharteberg , the castle Big Gudenberg and Castle Little Gudenberg to lock. Documentary evidence of the castle has not been preserved. After 1271 it was destroyed by Landgrave Heinrich I of Hesse . Wall and moat remains from the former castle complex have been preserved.
