Schlotzau is a district of the market town of Burghaun in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda .

geography

Schlotzau belongs together with Großenmoor , Langenschwarz and Hechelmannskirchen to the so-called Kiebitzgrund . Schlotzau is located on the western border of the Fulda district in the area between Haune and Fulda. The neighboring towns are Großenmoor and Hechelmannskirchen.

history

The village is first mentioned in 1174 under the name "Schlatzowa". It is estimated, however, that the settlement was established around 800 to 1000. The village was owned by the von Buchenau and Schlitz families until 1370. In 1370 the village was bought into the exclusive possession of the von Buchenau family. The next documentary mention is in 1494 under the name "Slatzauw" or "Slotzauw", where it belongs to the Wehrda court and later to the Burghaun office. The church was probably built by the Buchenau farmers in 1601, as the year above the church door indicates.

On December 31, 1971, the previously independent municipality of Schlotzau was incorporated into the new, short-lived municipality of Kiebitzgrund. This was already dissolved on August 1, 1972 and assigned to the neighboring municipality of Burghaun.
