Rothenkirchen is part of the market town of Burghaun in the East Hessian district of Fulda .

Geographical location

Rothenkirchen is around three kilometers from the core town of Burghaun and is located northwest of it at the entrance of the Rainbach into the valley floor of the Haune . The Rothenkirchen district also includes the forest valley at the Unterrainmühle and Oberrainmühle, which is up to a hundred meters deep, to the southwest of the village . The district area is 1017 hectares (1961), of which 461 hectares are forested.

history

Rothenkirchen was first mentioned in 1120 because of a donation to the Fulda monastery .

On December 31, 1971, in the run-up to the regional reform in Hesse, the previously independent communities of Burghaun, Hünhan , Rothenkirchen and Steinbach in the district of Hünfeld were merged to form a community called Burghaun .

The state road 3169 leads through Rothenkirchen, which branches off from the federal road 27 following the Haunetal and connects the place with the villages in Kiebitzgrund and Schlitz .
